Osaamistavoitteet 

By the end of this course

  • Students will be able to describe the common concepts and theoretical background of analytics in education.
  • Articulate and plan the key steps of the learning analytics process including data capture, analysis, interpretation and data-driven actions.
  • Identify and pose solutions to the ethical considerations, practical issues and concerns.
  • Visualize, analyze and interpret a learning dataset.

Participate in a min-research project and present results.

 
Sisältö 

History, background and taxonomy of learning analytics and related terms. Theory and assumptions of learning analytics. The structure of the learning analytics cycle (data capture, analysis and action). Common methods in learning analytics, with emphasis on data analysis, predictive modelling, and network analysis. Ethics and privacy issues in learning analytics. Applications of learning analytics. Designing learning analytics project.

Lectures 8 h, tutorial sessions 8 h, 5 exercises, 3 assignments and a mini-project.
