Description
Learning outcomes |
The course aims at developing further the students listening, reading, speaking and writing abilities. Students also enlarge their Chinese vocabulary and improve the social communication skills. At the end of the course, the students are able to: • understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment). • communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters. • describe in simple terms aspects of their background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need. |
Content |
The teaching materials introduce the students to daily life, social customs and culture in China. Topic areas covered include, e.g.: 1.Learning how to express time, including time of clock and date. 2.Using the structure of "在zai"and "有you"sentence to ask for directions and describe location. 3. Using the grammar of "了le" "着zhe"and "过guo" describe one's hobby and health, mastering the positive, negative and interrogative forms of them. 4.When to use the emphasis structure of "是......的" to point out the time, place, manner, object and purpose. |

Teaching methods |
Teaching methods used: lectures, oral work including role-plays in pairs and small groups, pronunciation practice, vocabulary exercises, independent learning tasks (e.g. writing), computer supported learning. Total working hours for each student 108 hours. Maximum contact hours 48, some of which can be otherwise arranged with the lecturer and the participants. Minimum attendance requirement: 50 %. |

Evaluation criteria |
Numerical grading 5–0. Active participation and attendance pass/fail. The final grade consists of two parts: course assignments (30%) and the final exam at the end of the semester (70%). Both parts need to be successfully completed for a passing grade. |

A follow-up course to Chinese 1. The course level is A1 (CEFR). |
