Description
Learning outcomes 

After completing the course, the student knows the physical basis of sound sources and acoustic wave propagation. The student recognizes factors affecting the sound wave and knows concepts related to sound propagation (such as absorption, reflection, and transmission) and is able to mathematically formulate acoustic scattering and transmission problems. The student is able to derive the acoustic wave equation based on conservation laws and understand the boundary conditions of the wave equation. After the course, the student can also solve the acoustic wave equation analytically in simplified scattering problems.

 
Content 

Principles of sound propagation and scattering.  Acoustic wave equation. Reflection, refraction and transmission of sound. Modeling of sound sources. Attenuation and absorption mechanisms. Resonances.
