Learning outcomes 

When participating in international Language Café activities, the student develops their language skills together with other participants in line with a self-defined starting point and goals, learns about different cultures and customs, and acquires skills in performing within a multicultural group.


The Language Café leader prepares the course content together with the participants. The participants draw up their own learning objectives and submit them to the
leader during the second meeting at the latest.

Provided that the student participates actively in Language Café activities, ECTS credits can be earned as follows:
• One (1) ECTS credit is earned by participating in the Language Café for one semester.

Modes of study 

Requirements for receiving ECTS credits:
• Participation in the Language Café meetings (20 h), 80% attendance requirement
• Drawing up and submitting personal learning objectives
• Writing a learning diary at least two (2) pages in length.
A suitable length for the learning diary is at least two (2) pages, with 1.5 line spacing and 12 pt font.
• Submitting the ECTS credit application form

Teaching methods 

• 20 hours of attending Language Café meetings
• 7 hours of independent study and writing the learning diary
• The Language Centre coordinates the ECTS credit applications for participation in Language Café activities.
• The ECTS credit application process occurs between January and February for the autumn semester, and between May and June for the spring semester.
NOTE! Applying for ECTS credits, i.e., receiving and submitting the required assignments, is done via the Moodle platform.

Evaluation criteria 

The scale used in the evaluation is pass-fail. The minimum requirement for a pass grade is that the required studies have been completed by the given deadlines and that the learning diary demonstrates learning in accordance with the course’s learning outcomes.


Language Café activities are directed by volunteer peer instructors. The ECTS credit application process is coordinated by the Language Centre.


The ECTS credit application periods run from January to February for the autumn semester and from May to June for the spring semester.
