Learning outcomes |
Cognitive skills: After the course the students will understand the structure of wood and its chemical components, and understand the basic structure-property relationships, effects of environmental factors on wood properties and behavior, as well as the properties and manufacturing principles of the most important wood and fiber and biochemical products. Students get familiar with industrial production processes and research and development methods in the field of wood materials science.
General skills: Basic concepts and methods in wood science, wood processing and manufacturing of wood products, academic writing and presentation skills, teamworking, information search. The course is especially targeted for the first-year students of MSc Wood Materials Science. |

Wood structure and properties, wood-based products and production processes, wood materials science methodologies and research fields, forest industry. |
Modes of study |
Exams will be replaced by learning tasks. Lectures (16 h). Learning tasks (25 h). Power point presentation prepared as a team, but in distance learning form (16 h). Individual writing of literature review (40 h). Individual learning (24 h). |
