Learning outcomes 

After the course, the student

1. can explain key points about the university and its services to non-Finnish students
2. will have internalised their responsibilities and role as peer tutors of exchange students
3. can take into account the individual needs of students
4. will be prepared for interaction with students from a different cultural background
5. can provide information on courses taught in English and on the practices of university studies in Fin-land
6. will be able to help foreign students to get by in Finnish society.

 
Content 

The students will gain practical skills and knowledge which will assist them in planning and executing the tutoring of exchange students arriving in Finland. The students will gain in-depth understanding of university services, study programmes available in English and other aspects of life essential to exchange students, including study practices in Finland and getting by in Finnish society. The student understands the principal objectives and responsibilities of peer tutoring for exchange students and their role as part of the university’s guidance services.

 
Modes of study 

Attendance at sessions and completion of assignments

 
Teaching methods 

Participation in instruction aimed at peer tutors for exchange students (14 h); completion of assignments and individual work including learning materials (13 h). Reading the learning material for international tutors before instruction begins, classroom instruction, work in an online learning environment and individual work.

Evaluation criteria
