Description
Learning outcomes

Stability is an essential quality parameter of pharmaceuticals. The aim of the course is to teach theory behind the drug stability which all pharmacists should know.

After the course:

- You know the main degradation mechanisms of the drugs and the how pH, temperature and other factors are affecting on drug stability.

- You are familiar with the methods which can be used to improve the drug stability.

- You can perform the stability study and you know which essential parameters you have to think before the study

- You can calculate stability parameters from the laboratory data and you know how to perform stability studies at elevated temperatures.

- You are familiar with the regulatory aspects dealing with the drug stability.

Content

The course deals with the chemical, physical and microbiological stability of pharmaceuticals including the regulatory aspects. The course describes the mathematical models of degradation kinetics and it contains also the laboratory work.

Modes of study

Written examination, practical exercises

Teaching methods

Lectures 18 h, tutorial 6 h, independent study 60 h, calculation practicals 2 h
