Learning outcomes 

To learn 1) The basic mathematical principles in pharmacokinetic analysis that is the calculation of pharmacokinetic parameters, 2) The basic principles in bioequivalence studies, 3) The most popular mathematical models to describe drug response (pharmacodynamics), 4) The basic principles in simultaneous pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic modeling.


Scientific competence:  1) Pharmacokinetic (PK) analysis that is the calculation of PK parameters from the plasma concentration data of the drug; compartmental and noncompartmental analysis, 2) Basic principles in nonlinear regression (curve fitting), 3) Evaluation of the goodness-of-fit, 4) Bioequivalence study, 5) Mathematical models in pharmacodynamics (PD), 6) Simultaneous modeling of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics (PK/PD).

Professional competence: Learning to perform PK analysis (Phoenix WinNonlin software), interpret the results and build versatile PK/PD simulation models (Stella software).

Modes of study 

Calculation and modeling exercises need to be solved alone or in pairs. No final exam.

Teaching methods 

Lectures 7 h, tutorials in computer class 25 h, independent study 22 h.

Lecture notes. Calculation workbooks.

Evaluation criteria 

Accepted-failed principle. The calculation exercises need to be solved correctly.
