Learning outcomes 

After the course student is able to:

-      recognize, why toxicity of substances is studied

-      recognize and describe terminology of toxicity testing and toxicological risk assessment

-      explain, how different types of toxicity can be studied and principles of toxicity testing

-      explain major features of OECD guidelines for performing toxicity tests

-      identify strengths and weaknesses of in vivo and vitro toxicity tests

-      interpret most important parameters obtained from toxicity tests

-      evaluate feasibility of testing methods for toxicity testing

-      explain the significance of GLP in toxicity testing

Written Examination.

Teaching methods 

Lectures 30 h, Tutorial 6 h, Independent Study 40 h. Details: group work 6 h, final examination 4 h.

Hayes AW: Principles and Methods of Toxicology, latest edition. Other materials distributed during the course.
