Advanced knowledge about nutrient cycling in forest ecosystems: inputs, outputs, and processes within the ecosystem. |
Content |
Weathering and nitrogen fixation, nutrient retention in soil, reactions of different nutrients in soil, the role of soil organisms in the nutrient cycle, nutrient uptake and the function of mycorrhizas, the functions of nutrients in plants, litter formation and decomposition. Leaching and erosion. Impacts of environmental factors, fertilization, forest management, chemical precipitation and global change. |

Lectures (6 h), guided independent written work based on literature, oral presentation and attendance in 10 h of student presentations, literature, examination. |
